In the field of industrial safety, LOTO lock (lockout/tagout lock) is a vital safety device that is widely used in various equipment and system operations that may involve danger.Understanding its working principle is of great significance to ensure the life safety of workers and the normal operation of equipment.

The working principle of LOTO lock is mainly based on a simple locking mechanism to prevent accidental startup or operation during equipment maintenance, overhaul or cleaning. When workers need to maintain a certain equipment, they will first cut off the power supply of the equipment, which is the first step to ensure safety. Then, they will use a special LOTO lock to lock the power switch or operating mechanism of the equipment to prevent others from reconnecting the power or starting the equipment without knowing it.

LOTO locks usually consist of two parts: a lock body and a key. The lock body is installed on the power switch or operating mechanism of the equipment, and the key is carried by the maintenance staff. Only the staff holding the corresponding key can unlock the equipment and operate it. This one-to-one locking method ensures that only authorized personnel can unlock and operate during equipment maintenance, effectively avoiding the risk of misoperation.

In addition, to further enhance safety, LOTO locks are often equipped with tags or hangtags. These tags or hangtags will indicate that the equipment is under maintenance, prohibited operations, and other information to warn other staff not to try to start or operate the equipment.

In some complex industrial environments, multiple LOTO locks may be used to lock the same equipment. In this case, the equipment can only be reconnected to the power supply or started after all related LOTO locks are unlocked. This multiple locking mechanism further enhances the safety of the equipment and ensures the smooth progress of maintenance work.
